15 Apr 1891 The administration of the Katangese areas conquered by the Congo Free State is entrusted to the Compagnie du Katanga; however, no effective administration is set up.
19 Jun 1900 Katanga is entrusted to the Comité Spécial du Katanga, an administration totally separated from that of the Congo is set up.
1 Sep 1910 Katanga is integrated in the Belgian Congo but retains a large measure of autonomy.
1 Oct 1933 Autonomy abrogated, at the same time part of its Lomami-district was transferred to the province of Kasaï.
1 Oct 1933 Renamed province of Elisabethville/Elisabethstad.

1934 Katanga From the early days of the Free State it had been considered as a separate colony, administered from Brussels, and it was only in 1934 that it was brought under the authority of the Governor General in Leopoldville.
