Free State of Matabeleland
The flag of Matabeleland
Blue: Background symbolizing open space, freedom and that most precious resource in Matabeleland: rain and water.
Red: The blood shed for Matabeleland, especially during Gukurahundi. In time we may learn to forgive, but we will never forget. Never!
Black: Strength and courage. We are descended from the army of Africa's greatest king, Shaka, and his finest general, Mzilikazi.
White: Peace, and tolerance of all peoples within our borders. Freedom of religion and belief. Embrace the colours and languages of Matabeleland as one people under God and celebrating our diversity.
Gold: The two crossed lines indicate that Matabeleland will forever be a democracy (X for the vote) and gold is for the wealth of our country that must be used to benefit all people, not just a few.
Shield: The shield is our promise to always defend Matabeleland, but the spear and weapons are in place, not drawn for battle, because we will never be the aggressors though we will defend our nation at all costs.
The shield is brown because we are people of the soil and our spirit is one with the land.
